Just a quick post to let everyone know that there is a bonfire planned for plot-holders on November 2nd at the allotment. With all the trees and bramble being cleared, and with bonfire night so close, it makes sense to throw a bonfire party for plot-holders and their families. You are welcome to bring food and drink, although alcohol is best avoided as children will be present.

Any members wishing to bring their children or grandchildren are more than welcome. At the moment we are looking at a 5:30/6:00pm start. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, and fun will be had.

On a serious note, please be aware of health and safety concerns on the night. And we have to state clearly that plot-holders attending will be entirely responsible for the welfare of themselves and their families.

Turning the tide

New members are turning the tide at Ashfield Road Allotments and what was a sea of bramble and trees is becoming cultivated ground once more.

The bramble has been receding steadily over the past four years, but the recent upsurge of interest in vegetable gardening and healthy eating has had a real impact here in Newbridge.

Over the last seven weeks four new plots have been carved out of the wilderness at the top of our allotments by new members keen to reclaim these derelict plots. It just goes to show how much is possible with a little effort.

We are receiving regular enquiries about plot availability from members of the public eager to reap the rewards that allotment gardening can offer. And thanks to the efforts of our members, both old and new, the future of Ashfield Road Allotment is looking rosy.
